The following text is from the book "EMERA ALTIZER AND HIS DESCENDANTS With Sketches of Connected Families" by Ruby Altizer Roberts and Rosa Altizer Bray:
"The Althausen coat of arms was recorded in the year 1601, when Rudolph of the House of Habsburg was not only Emperor, but King of Bohemia and of Hungary. Much later, a student of German heraldry named Siebmacher included it in a Wappenbuch, or book on heraldry. This book is an authoritative source for continental arms." The text goes on to describe the "Arms of the imperial head-surgeon Hans Althausen".

This version I scanned from the book EMERA ALTIZER AND HIS DESCENDENTS; by Ruby Altizer Roberts and Rosa Altizer Bray. The scan was black & white, I filled in the colors by computer from a description included in the text of the book.

This is the same scan with just a little more work on the coloring and a border added.

I don't remember where this version came from, but there was an explanation with it to the effect that the Altizer family had a penchant for the color green. This penchant was explained as being a result of so much Irish blood marrying into the family.

Yet another variant on the color scheme. And, again I've forgotten who sent this. If it was you please let me know and I'll apologize and give the credit.

This version is a very nice painting by Maynard Altizer. I have this one nicely framed and hanging in my living room. If he gets enough requests, Maynard has indicated a willingness to make and sell copies of this at a very reasonable cost.

This is the mystery version. I found this snapshot of a painting in one of Mom's old shoe boxes and have been trying to find out who has the painting. The signature looks like "Peggy Woodrow - 1980", the only part I'm sure of is "Peggy".

This is an interesting idea, the family crest in stained glass. This is owned by Chris and Anne Altizer, presently of New Jersey. Check out their website at http://www.altizerstainedglass.com/ . You'll find the crest under the "Custom Windows" link.
